THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

I love my Eco 20, although getting the humidity up for lockdown can be a challenge. I've had good hatches and the turner makes life very easy. I use wadded up paper towels to keep any loose eggs from getting thrown around.

Wet paper towels trailing out of the water reservoirs can get that humidity to spike! I use cardboard to fill in those little gaps that the natural difference in egg shape and size like to leave in my ECO. I'm in love with the darn thing!

I usually follow the directions and fill one side with water until lock down and then at day 18 fill both. The hatches have all been in my book successful while not 100% egg hatch but I don't expect that. I do play with the slide opening some but for the most part just let it rock away until hatch time. My biggest challenge is the old fashioned thermometer. I just can't get a clear read on it ( mine is non digital) so I am really considering buying another ECO and stepping up to the digital and while I am at it adding the humidity pump. As for the quality of the product I really like it.

I asked a mod. if the other thread could be LOCKED, because that thread was just to ASK people if they thought such a thread would be a good idea.

SOOOOOOOO, I started this one, since many of you thought it would be a good idea.

BUT, the other thread stilll hasn't been locked!

Let's hope confusion doesn't get compounded, eh?

I can't wait to see how things progress with this incubator. I'm thinking about getting one for my kids' classrooms-2nd and 4th grades.

Has anyone else had any issues with their Brinsea Octagon Eco incubator dropping temperature when rotating it backwards? Mine goes from 99 to 97. I'm assuming the heat is escaping from the ventilation hole.

Weird, mine holds a pretty darn steady temperature, I have had it go up a degree because I banged the lid down a little hard but that was more my fault.

I just needed to complain about it, apparently.

I rotated it tonight, it went down to 97 degrees... then after a few minutes it jumped back up to 99. Ah well, as long as it's not overheating we're good!

I have noticed that thermometer shows temperature change QUICK, have you noticed if you take the lid off to candle it drops like, 5-10 degrees, and then pops back up to 99.5 in a jiffy? Sensitive little bugger!
