Hello everyone,

i am very sad to say i lost one of my babys lastnight and today i see another one the same way and it's killing me...

he don't move. he poops white and runnie he don't eat much and other chicks are mean to him/her Dont know what to do about this I got my chicks off Ideal Poultry and it's hard to get a hold of them about this. Should i order that product “Grogel Plus-B,” that will help your chicks get off to a great start.?

White diarrhea is one symptom of salmonella pullorum, which mainly affects chicks under three weeks of age. I'm not saying that's what this is, but you may want to look into it.

To be safe, I would put him and maybe one other chick in a separate enclosure. If at all possible, try to let the hatchery know, and get the chicks taken into a lab for testing. SP is very costly for the hatcheries, so if that is it I am sure they will want to know as soon as possible to avoid future losses.

Give a bit of organic yogurt and scrambled egg. Remember a baby chick only eats a tiny bit so no need to fill them up on that. I find they eat the yogurt best when I sprinkle a bit of their chick food on it, they peck at the food and realize how yummy the yogurt is.
 
I agree, sounds like Salmonella Pullorum. The chicks would not be eating, have a pasty butt, huddle together and not want to stand as well as the white runny poop. SP is caused by infected parents and transfered by the egg to the hatching chick. You could try seperating the infected chicks from the others and disinfecting your brooder, checking with your vet for some amoxycillin or tetracyline. It is a bacterial disease and any infected birds that survive would spread the disease to their off spring through the eggs. I am sorry for your lose and hope you can get it under control.
 
When did you receive the chicks? That is very important.

If within the last couple of days or so then it honestly sounds like some of the chicks got chilled. Chilled chicks will act exactly as you described. If so, then this has nothing to do with the hatchery and everything to do with the shipping process which does happen when ordering chicks during cooler weather.

Well here is the update.

We ordered 30 off of ideal poultry I can say they are very good with me about this.. very happy with how they deal with me..

Over this week we lost 4 all in two days. We took the sick one out as soon as we would find them. and got some of the chick saver off a local feed store.

I got some of this chick saver stuff that should help them if they are getting anything... I cook some of my eggs today for them they gone nuts over them. I don't have any yogurt right now but next time i at the store i will get some dose it mind what kind or anything about it i should not get?

how old are the chicks, are they eating the shavings (litter)?

I don't think so. the off the start i lay down paper tale and show them food and water but they could get some i am sure... they are 1 week old today.

ideal poultry told me they would never send me a disease chick but how would they know if they where born on 10AM the same day they got shipped? not saying that is what happen but how do they know? It looks like it's under control now lost 4 out of 30 so still happy with what i got it's sad tho because they are so cute and one was very good lookin and the only one like it out of them.

I got them on 10/21/11 at 8AM they where born on 10/19/11 at 10AM yes it was cold that day i got them and as soon as my wife got home with them we put them under the heat and they looked cold. I did the best that i could do with them to help it was only me Wife had to goto work right after she got home she was late aswell

So now that they are 1 week old they seem to be doing very good now. I will take another pic tonight if i can and post them to show how they look now. I also had a white heat light and not a red. well i gone out and got a red 250Watt light for them. they seem to like that more and i can see why lol... I am very happy to have them Wife and I are first time chicken owners.​
