Ok- end of day 23. No hatch. one egg I can hear a peep when I hold it up to my ear. Have seen slight wiggles from egg. How long do I leave it? 3 not sure- have not heard anything. Advice? Don't want it to die, don't want to harm it. HELP!

to the flockwatcher- It is a duplicate post because I was not sure where to list the question and I am a little overanxious for some opinions! Sorry

you can pill open the egg and help it hatch i know of some people who do it when the chick is hatching late and not doing good. go in you tube and wath how to help them hatch. If it is not showing sighs of improvement just help it hatch by pilling of the shell wath youtube they show you how to do it.

It doesn't matter the day the chick hatches on, it matters how far into the hatching process it is. Trying to help a chick that is simply peeping and wiggling in its egg will probably be disastrous. It is only still in the air sac, still breathing and getting ready to hatch, and there will be many active blood vessels and a rather large yolk sac in the egg. Let them do their thing and just make sure your humidity is high enough, don't disturb them and they should hatch on their own. Sometimes late babies are weak due to the low temperatures during incubation that caused them to be late, but you will know in around 24-48 hours whether enough progress is being made on their own, or whether you should assist.
