My girl Mildred - ninja duck

My duck (Lucy) has a thing on her foot --looks just like the ones posted about Mildred. I think there maybe a goathead thorn in it. It is swollen with a scab. Do I need to open it up to get the infection out? I read the posts yesterday and have been putting the potato poultice on it (twice so far--about 12 hrs apart). Any other suggestions?

Thanks, I'll try the Epsom Salt first -- that ought to be fun! Do you just hold her feet in it so she doesn't try to play & drink the water?
 
Pretty much. You may already know E.s. is a laxative, so you really don't want her drinking it. Miss Lydia uses a small bucket or big flat bottomed bowl, I use a flat bottomed bowl or sometimes a compress (soaked clean rag) that I hold on the foot for as long as we both can stand it.
