I am so depressed! I had a chick that had spradle leg right out of the shell.... I did the band aide trick and it healed... For the first 2-3 weeks I watched the chicks every night after work to make sure that nobody else had signs of spradle leg... They all seem fine.
Well the other night I looked in at my chicks and one was struggling at first I thought she was really sick and freaked out. Thank Goodness she wasn't .... but what I did find is that all of a sudden her leg is almost bent out 90 degrees to the side. She can't get any traction ..... I know what you are all going to say but I am hoping that someone has had some success with healing a chick like this... I thought maybe she had slipped her tendon but I don't know how to tell..... It seems to have come on so quickly and as she is older it seems irreversible ..... Any suggestions on how to help her she is so sweet???

I would check the online poultry orthopedist. He is fantastic and is helping me right now with one of my chicks that has a hurt leg. Just google search "poultry orthopedist" and post your problem on his forum. He'll respond promptly. And the best thing, he's free!

Thank you so much!!! This poor chicken..... hoping he can help~!

Just an update.... I posted on the poultry orthopedist's forum and he is great!!! After a few emails with pictures he was able to diagnosis my chick with a twisted Tibia. He said that it sometimes happens after fixing something like spradle leg.... Anyways, he gave me a remedy to try and help my bird which I am going to start tonight. Basically he said to wrap her legs together at night from just above the feet to below the hocks .... My poor bird is not going to like this at all!!! He said that It is the bird's own muscles pulling against the tape that untwists the tibia.... So crossing my fingers that this works! He also said to be sure and remove the water dish as a bird can drown easily with their legs taped.

In order to help people who might have this problem in the future here is a picture of what my chick looks like....

I'm so happy the orthopedist worked out! Thank god for the internet and wonderful people who freely give time to help others!
