New Chicks in the Flock (pic heavy!)

Lookie what I just picked up from Meyer Hatchery!



After my girls from last year turned a year old last month, I guess my mom decided to order some more. After all this waiting, we were finally able to pick up our order of:

Two speckled Sussex:


Two partridge Plymouth Rocks:


And the only sexed pullet blue splash Marans they had left:




They have been given 'baby names', which, like baby teeth, will fall out when they're older. (Or, well, you know what I mean.)

Our Sassy little Marans already has a good hold on the stink-eye:



Speckled Sussex Pip has a peep that sounds like her given baby name:



Little Miss Lungs the partridge Rock only stops peeping (and not quietly, either!) when she falls asleep:



Iddy Biddy the Sussex is kinda small next to her sister and took the car ride home the worst out of the bunch (but don't worry, she's eating and drinking normally now) :



And finally, She Who Sleeps Standing Up (aka SWSSU or Sleepy) the partridge Rock has a name that's pretty self-explanatory:





We just arrived home about an hour ago. In that time, we've learned how to use the waterer (that's Little Miss Lungs modelling her abilities in this shot) :



And had many naps (SWSSU is making her name here; she's the one closest to the camera, sleeping while standing) :

they are so darn cute ! and i liked the one were it had fallen asleep....my little one's do that and it is so funny to watch them sleep lol

A scary new thing has been added to the brooder. A scary thing called a thermometer.

SWSSU and Little Miss Lungs think it needs a good checking out, while Pip tries to sleep through the scary event:



But surprisingly, it's Iddy Biddy who saves the day, pinning down the unknown foe:

EDIT: Scary Mr. Thermometer has been deemed safe enough to sleep next to. (And SWSSU is still standing in her sleep.)

Sleeps While Standing Up.

Little Miss Lungs (who has actually quieted down in her 'old age') is the first baby to lose her chick tooth!!

Doesn't she look so grown up, modelling her smooth, tooth-free beak next to Mr. Thermometer?:





In other news, two lucky babies were given bracelets so that I can continue to tell them apart; one Sussex and one Rock, chosen at random.


Pip was the first to get her bracelet, and she didn't seem to notice it much:



Little Miss Lungs got the second bracelet, and at first, she was upset that she would be made to wear such an atrocity--after all, it didn't even match her eyes!:


But Little Miss Lungs soon found that she can look just as super-cute, even with a clashing bracelet:
