Here is the Ultimate showdown with Chicken Math. To enter, here is what I'd like to see:
Your original planned amount
What you actually got
Why (Edit: This is optional)
Rank your case:
1-10 extra: Mild
11-25 extra: Moderate
26-50 extra: Severe
51-100 extra: Extreme
101-200 extra: Deadly
20
1+: Extremely Deadly

For example, I did myself:
Original: 2 (who were we kidding?)
Actual: 4
Why: Grandma let the kids each pick out a chick.
My case: Mild
Don't worry, I want more.
Let the Chicken Math epidemic begin!

I mean no offense, but do you know what Chicken Math is?
I'll tell you. It's when you want a few chickens, but then you get a lot!
Sorry if the entering thing is confusing. The Rank your case is where you rank how severe chicken math is. It is dependent on how many extra you got.
Does that clarify things?

How about mental Chicken Math. I just wanted a few pet chickens. Then I saw showgirls which in turn led me to show quality silkies. then I went to a chicken show OMG now I want the 2 breeds+modern game bantums+bantam wyandottes+polish+east indies ducks and finallu Indian runner ducks....help I live in town and trying to figure out how to do this

Well, when we first started with chickens we got 25 (straight run), but we ended up butchering the roos (about half). Then every year for the next 5 years we got like 25-50 more. I think we had about 200 at one point. When we moved 2 years ago we had about 100, but I only brought 33. We didn't order any more until last February, when we got 22 pullets and 4 roos. Now I've been hatching more and selling/slaughtering some and (I believe) we have 90 as of today. I think we'll get more purebred pullets this spring, plus I want to start my quail d'Anver breeding project, and maybe NNs too.

I have a problem. :p

Spifflove- Your case is "extreme"!
Ms Bagawkbagawk's case is probably "Extremely Deadly"
Personally, I wasn't expecting "extremely deadly" to come up. Just got served!

I planned to get a variety of 6 hens.

I got: 1 BO
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Ameraucauna
1 Barred Rock
4 Rhode Island Reds
1 Delaware

I lost the Barred Rock and a RIR a few weeks ago, but I have already ordered 4 more hens, which should be delivered in the spring.

So with a plan for 6, I now have 7, but will eventually have 11.

I think I am a 15 - a moderate case.
