Sad day guys.

My mother Ingrid, the owner of this account, who spent many a nights on here passed away on the 16th of January. She was diagnosed on the 4th of January with cancer and on the 16th, it took her.

This is her son, saying her farewell for her.

I know she was close to some of you, cause she was always "crowing" about some of the things that you guys posted and the stories that you guys said.

Even in the hospital, she complained that she was missing her threads on what was happening on BYC. She loved it here: chatting, talking and coming up with ideas for her flock. At the time of her passing, she had over 100 birds on her property, with another 24 just coming out of the incubator. She was always so proud of the fact that she had such a high hatch rate. (not to brag for her, but she had a 95% + hatch rate with eggs from her flock)

It was my fault that my mom got into chickens. She always said she wanted a few, and I found a pair of hens on craig's list, (not knowing at the time they were Buff Orpingtons) and away she went from there. I grabbed a six pack of mystery chickens from Tractor Supply shortly later, and her small flock started.

My mother was a retired nurse and she found chickens very relaxing. She was going to go into doing China Dolls for retirement, but carpal tunnel syndrome kept her from doing it. She was a little depressed after that. Shortly after that, she found Backyard Chickens online.

She would be laughing at some of the crazy posts that happened here, and her spending all night reading them and then get out in the morning to play with her chickens. At first, the few hens she had followed her around the yard. Every where she went, the chickens would follow, sometimes right into the house, before she would shoo them back out side.

Her chicken farm, Fuzzy Butts Farm became her life. She converted an eight horse stall barn into a chicken coop, and the house became more of a chick nursery with and attached bedroom and bath, and the chickens had 5 acres to frolic in. Trust me, Chickens DO frolic. In joking, I would say she was the "Crazy Chicken Lady." But I never complained when I got the fresh eggs. I've not bought eggs in three years, and I don't know if I am able to go back to store bought eggs now that i have been eating mom's for so long. I guess I will need to start a flock of my own.

So I will say "Goodbye All" to you for her.

Thanks for the use of bandwidth.

She WILL be missed.

:hugs I don't think I ever talked with her, but that doesn't matter. Losing a fellow BYC member is always a sad thing. I'm sorry to hear that she's gone.
