My year old Dominique just shed most of her feathers. Falling out everywhere. She went on a two month broody hiatus that I couldn’t break her out of and she didn’t lay any eggs.
I was out of the country for 5 days and during that time my daughter informed me that her feathers were falling out by the handful.
The day after I returned she laid her first egg. And then the next day another.
She was acting normal while I was gone, eating and drinking. She’s at the top of the pecking order, so we didn’t suspect any bullying.
Molting in the summer seems odd, but being a new chicken owner, I would not be surprised if there’s a lot of info I’m missing.
No mites. No lice. No worms. Couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary aside for lack of feathers.
