How To Raise Roosters Right

Do any of you have tips to raising roosters so they are friendly, and what to do if they turn mean? Thanks in advance!

Start with breeds that are generally less human aggressive, and then make pets of your hens and treat the roosters like chickens. If they turn human aggressive I have neither the time nor the patience to tolerate them. Into the stewpot, soup pot, coq au vin they must go.

Exactly. Roosters should not be "friendly."

I want my roosters to be friendly enough to come running when I call "here, chick chick" whit treats, but wary enough of me to move away when I walk towards them, but not so wary that they freak out when I brush up against them in the chicken house. That's a good balance, and shows that they respect me as the top rooster. roosters that are made pets and allowed to sit on people's laps don't respect that human as the top rooster--why should they, by chicken rules? And they're more likely to challenge the human for the top spot.

The best way to raise a rooster with this balance is to move slowly and quietly around all the birds, feed treats and give the same call every time, but don't pick up and pet the rooster. Leave him alone except for routine care like deworming.

A rooster that's aggressive towards humans is dangerous, and should be culled. I have a friend that has a scar near his eye from a rooster attack as a child. A little closer and he would have lost the eye.

My roos are all friendly to me. Mine love to snuggle. I do have a rooster that attacks anyone but myself but is only about 32 oz so not much to deal with.If a rooster that you really like does turn agressive he sees you as another rooster.To stop him you would have to hold him down holding his head so his beak touches the ground.then keep him that way for 20-30 sec.repeat untill he stays put even when you move.then walk away and dont touch him the rest of the day after ypu can start handleing him again, but he will probably challenge you again at one point or another.
If your like me you would keep many roosters had a roo that came up and hit me on the leg with jis belly and stood there, I had another rooster that is my favorite rooster that saw him challengeing me and took after him like a motorboat.i got rid of the other rooster.

Spoilled, human habituated roosters frequently become those that will attack you.

try crested breeds they are usaully non agressive.

Anyone have experience with Buff orpington roos?

My Barred Rock roo keeps attacking me! I hate him!!

I had one he was so sweet to everyone even other roos.unfortunately he got stuck in my heat lamp i had up for them and got fried.
