Anybody out there have Buff Sussex's? I had a hard time finding them in the US as I surfed the internet last winter. Finally found some nice chicks available from Waltz's in CO (I'm in OH) and ordered them. Got 6 chicks in April so they are 2+ months now. I think I have 1 or maybe 2 roosters but it's still hard to tell.

I would love to have this breed! I'm actually going to try my own cross/version with buff orpingtons and light Sussex. We'll see how it goes I guess, as it sounds like it'll be 2 nd generation that will look like them..sort of. :) it's going to be a little side project of mine while I keep buff orpingtons and light Sussex.

They are such a nice breed that I'm surprised that they aren't more common in this country.

Could you provide info on the hatchery for your Buff Sussex ? I'm interested in them for my 1st flock in the spring of 2014. Thanks. Your two hens shown are very nice.

Here are recent pictures of my buff sussex, the rooster and two hens. They are large birds, docile and friendly. It's hard to get pictures of them because they won't stay far enough away from me for me to take the picture. I love my little flock of Buff's! For Sam3 Abq, I got them from Waltz's in Colorado. The website is: http://www.naturalark.com/poultry.html. I am very happy with the quality of birds I got there. I also got 6 Isbars and they are equally nice. They all arrived safely and without much jet lag as they were very well packaged. I'm lucky in that out of the 6 buffs, I ended up with 5 hens and 1 rooster. I highly recommend this breeder. I'm sure I'll have eggs to sell in the new year, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

The Exhibition and Breeding to the Standard of Perfection forum has been created for those with breeder quality stock to have more serious poultry discussions. This includes discussions on breeding to the standard, genetics, exhibition, breeding strategies, breeding for specific traits, etc.
It’s Staff’s desire to moderate this forum with an eye toward consideration that many of the folks participating here are longtime breeders who may write in a down-to-earth and non-sugar-coated way; this certainly doesn’t mean that, when posting here, the Rules do not apply. This is simply meant to advise folks new to this forum that, for example, if they ask a question about a picture they just posted of a bird from their flock, they should expect a straightforward answer, taken from the viewpoint of someone who is breeding exhibition fowl.
We do not want this section to be a competition among breeders but, rather, a collaborative effort to further the breed they are working with. BYC is a very diverse community, and this section will be no different. Poultry judges, experienced breeders, and those new to breeding are all welcome, and all have something to contribute to this forum.
Participants are encouraged to understand and use the terminology found in the APA Standard of Perfection and avoid usage of terminology that might be considered "slang" in the poultry world.
This section is not intended for discussion of pet birds or birds bred/sold by hatcheries; conversations in regard to these birds and flocks should take place in the General Breed Discussions and FAQ section.

Hi all,
I'm Looking to get some chickens soon for our backyard. I've heard Sussex can be noisy, this was said of Light Sussex, is that the same for the buff? I'm keeping an eye out for Orpington, but like the look of these Sussex too. I Live in New Zealand.
