“A best friend is like a four leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have”, or so goes a shirt I saw with my friend Cetawin (Ladyhawk from Kentucky) in Walmart during her visit with me last week. She stayed with us 8 days and we had a great time. I am not superstitious, nor do I believe in luck or fate, but I do believe in good friends who have your back and best interests at heart because I have a few of those, and she is right at the top of the list. They came out of the woodwork with gift cards and offers of help when this happened and they know who they are. Big hugs to all of you!
I recently had a house fire, in case most of you didn't know. Back on March 3, the ventilation hood over the stove shorted out while we were out in one of the coops, burned up into the attic and filled the house with acrid, greasy black smoke. We were not cooking, just an old vent hood. Since then, we've been frustrated, stressed, confused and going in circles, living in an RV in our driveway until just a couple of weeks ago. Just got our household goods back from the disaster specialist company on Wednesday in about 200 boxes, so it's like moving without moving. Still dealing with the insurance co over paying for the rest of the lost content (you'd be amazed what smoke can destroy and how-it runs down the walls like water and goes anywhere air can go), but we're getting close to the end of the ordeal, except for finishing the exterior painting of the house ourselves.
Ladyhawk has been working on a beaded picture of my beloved Suede for several years now, the rooster in my avatar, a guy we both have loved, who passed on in September last year at almost 6 years of age. She had not gotten the finished artwork to me when this happened, thank the Lord, or it would have been destroyed. He is now in a place of honor in my newly renovated greatroom, in my crochet/reading/quilting corner, just over a lovely lamp, also a gift from Ladyhawk she thought would look nice with my new colors. I wanted to publicly thank her and show off this beautiful and intricate piece of art. The feathers are Suede's, but also belong to his late son, Thor, who Ladyhawk loved and lost way too early; his daughter Athena, his best "wife" Meg who is still with me, his son Hector out of Meg who lives as second in command of Ladyhawk's flock, and his honorary brother, Lancelot, Ladyhawk's courageous and handsome Blue Orpington rooster. Thank you, my chosen sister.
