“A best friend is like a four leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have”, or so goes a shirt I saw with my friend Cetawin (Ladyhawk from Kentucky) in Walmart during her visit with me last week. She stayed with us 8 days and we had a great time. I am not superstitious, nor do I believe in luck or fate, but I do believe in good friends who have your back and best interests at heart because I have a few of those, and she is right at the top of the list. They came out of the woodwork with gift cards and offers of help when this happened and they know who they are. Big hugs to all of you!

I recently had a house fire, in case most of you didn't know. Back on March 3, the ventilation hood over the stove shorted out while we were out in one of the coops, burned up into the attic and filled the house with acrid, greasy black smoke. We were not cooking, just an old vent hood. Since then, we've been frustrated, stressed, confused and going in circles, living in an RV in our driveway until just a couple of weeks ago. Just got our household goods back from the disaster specialist company on Wednesday in about 200 boxes, so it's like moving without moving. Still dealing with the insurance co over paying for the rest of the lost content (you'd be amazed what smoke can destroy and how-it runs down the walls like water and goes anywhere air can go), but we're getting close to the end of the ordeal, except for finishing the exterior painting of the house ourselves.

Ladyhawk has been working on a beaded picture of my beloved Suede for several years now, the rooster in my avatar, a guy we both have loved, who passed on in September last year at almost 6 years of age. She had not gotten the finished artwork to me when this happened, thank the Lord, or it would have been destroyed. He is now in a place of honor in my newly renovated greatroom, in my crochet/reading/quilting corner, just over a lovely lamp, also a gift from Ladyhawk she thought would look nice with my new colors. I wanted to publicly thank her and show off this beautiful and intricate piece of art. The feathers are Suede's, but also belong to his late son, Thor, who Ladyhawk loved and lost way too early; his daughter Athena, his best "wife" Meg who is still with me, his son Hector out of Meg who lives as second in command of Ladyhawk's flock, and his honorary brother, Lancelot, Ladyhawk's courageous and handsome Blue Orpington rooster. Thank you, my chosen sister.

If anyone is interested, here are pictures of the kitchen before the fire, just after the fire and now. The electric range that fried was only a few months old. We have replaced it with a quality gas range.
Kitchen Before:

The electric range I had just bought with quilt sales and hatching egg money:

After the fire was out:

And post renovation--not really decorated yet, but you get the idea:

***Ooops, didn't mean to reply, only edit the first post. Good grief, I think my brain was fried right along with everything else, sorry, guys!***

The artwork is beautiful! I remember seeing progress photos of it a while ago. I'm really happy to be able to see the finished project! You are very lucky to have such a great friend!

The new kitchen looks great. I know how horrible fires can be though. We had a scare with a chimney fire and almost lost the whole house about two years ago. Luckily, with quick thinking my dad was able to put it out. We still had oily smoke EVERYWHERE and we had to replace pretty much the whole chimney. I'm glad you were able to save most of your things though!

No fair....you made me cry. :). I am so glad Suede is hanging where he should be long last. It is strange to come home and the beadwork not be here but he will always be close to mama now. I sure missed that big blue love's presence there.

I am glad you liked the gifts as I just wanted to give you some positive moments after a long and stressful process.

Thank you both for letting me stay so long and get some down time myself. I had a blast, laughed tons, relaxed and enjoyed spoiling your birds rotten. From baby nomnoms to giving the older gals their massages. And I adored Penny as always but also Lucy, Mina, Nora, Snow, Wynette, Dru, Barbara, Becca, and Amanda. What a bunch of sweeties.

Thanks for the eggs....both bators are running. Much love to you lady....a sister by choice indeed.

Awe....it's beautiful, LH! What a work of love...progress hay have been a bit slow, but clearly, that was for a reason! It would have been horrible if Cyn had this on her wall & it got ruined in the fire! Isn't it funny hwo things work out? You two ladies have a wonderful friendship...to be envied by the rest of we gals to be sure!

Cyn's mighty special, as are you, LH! I'm so glad you went to see Cyn for a nice, long visit...she sure needed it!

Thanks Wynette....we both think you are special too. It was a good visit for us both...it gave me some down time from the health issues I have been under and time to laugh with Cyn. I always go down for a weekend but Hubby snatched me phone away and asked Cyn if she would keep me for a week or so. LOL

So I had more time to spoil her birds. Yay....did you see my posts in stories and p and p? LOL check em out.

The beautiful beaded rendition of Suede is not the only artwork she left me with. Check out these lovely custom outlet/switchplates she made from clay in my favorite colors-they pick up the various shades of sage green and violet in the shower curtain, towels, pictures and rugs.

Glad you like 'em...they really look good with the accessories all in place...gives them more to pull from. I am pleased with them. YAY!
