Want to know my biggest tip for coop building? + purple progress pics

thanks! Yes, we live in San Diego. We are making a couple of removable panels to fit in the spaces for the rainy days. My son's are building a nest box :)

Taking a break from trim to make a roost. I hemmed and hawed about this because I heard the advice about removable roosts for making cleaning easier and I am all about making things easy ( <-- a little on the lazy side) I decided to make a peg system and thought about dowels or a sawn off branch but in the end chose long eyebolts as they are easy to grab and pull on even after the wood swells and they are strong and nice and long.

Here is Pecky modelling it for you. I have other pics if you want them but they don't have a cute chicky in them.

For everyone weighing paint or stain options you should check out Eco Wood Treatment. It's cheap ($18/gal), and a 1 time use product. It's basically a stain that gives wood am aged barnwood look. The best part is that it seals the wood (better than Thompsons etc.) in 1 coat. You never have to reapply.
