I fried hamburger last night and drained the grease. I was wondering if I could add seeds, pellets, oatmeal ect and make a block or a cake out of it? I know in school we used lard and peanut butter to make bird seed cakes. Would hamburger grease be that different? Will it hurt my chickens if I try it out?

I might worry about too much fat.\
Suet cakes for wild birds are for energy in winter when insects aren't available.

I've done it, they love it. I don't give it to them everyday, and I do give it to them more often in winter... even just a blob mixed into the famous "Pie's" some of us are known to make, chicken fat too...

Thanks cheeka! I mixed the grease, some PB, some oatmeal, bird seed with BOSS, layer pellets and some honey and put it in the freezer to get solid. I may try to give it to them on a chilly day, so they have something a little extra!
