I have a young pullet that has a weird growth on her beak. It's kinda hard but bled a little with no puss when I poke it with a sewing needle. I cleaned her up with peroxide and neosporin. I can't find any info on anything that looks like what she has. Does anyone know what it is and how I should treat it. None of my other birds have anything like it and she is housed with 3 Guineas that she grew up with since she was a few days old, we call her Guinea chicken. I'm wondering if it's just an injury with a big scab? Thanks in advance! Lisa

There are manythreads on BYC if you search at the top of the page for the same title as your thread. Many look similar, but there are no answers. Guesses are tumor, canker (a fungal infection,) fowl pox lesion, abcess, or a small cut or scrape that has scarred. Please let us know if you come up with an answer.

X2. I have had one hen get a small scrape on her beak, and it turned into a small growth/scar. The growth/scar (I'm not really sure what it was) went away on its own, leaving no evidence that it was there.

You might check your waterer and feeder, and notice if there is a rough spot where she touches it with her beak. That could make a sore that would scar. Those little metal chick waterers are very dangerous like that with sharp insides, and I even have read where one persons chick cut it's neck and died after using one.

Poor chicks, that awful. Someone gave me metal waterers and a feeder but I threw them out. She is fine it fell off 2 days ago and there is no open wound. I use rubber bowls for food and water but they free range and she doesn't seem to be the smartest bird (she was raised with guinea keets and think she is one) maybe she got into trouble in the yard somewhere. All seems well for now! Thanks for your thoughts!
