I saw another thread regarding fowl pox and it looked much more severe than what our guy and girls have, but I wanted to be sure...Our fabulous rooster Zoltar Rex has the worst of it thus far.



The girls have much smaller spots that are barely noticable, yesterday was the first day we saw this.

Question #2, if it is fowl pox, I have two week old chicks in a brooder. Will this have run its course in the next month or so or do I keep them in the brooder until no spots are visible and then clean the coop and run throroughly? I know that it can affect their growth...
 
In my opinion, this doesn't really look like fowl pox. It looks more like small injuries/scratches caused by other chickens pecking at him. If it increases in coverage, or begins to get more scabby/blistered, it may be fowl pox. As of now, I don't think it is fowl pox.

Fowl pox usually runs its course in about a month. If your chicks don't get bitten by an infected mosquito or insect, they won't get the disease. Try treating your area for mosquitoes/flies, and that should prevent spread, if this is fowl pox. Its getting colder all over the United States now, so the cold weather should cut down on the spread of fowl pox.
 
Thanks...Here are some of the smaller spots on a couple of the girls (hard to get a good picture when they constantly are moving those heads, lol). I never see them pick on each other- we only have 4 in the coop right now, but a search online for black spots on chicken comb turns up pox or frostbite! Just wanted to be sure....I didn't think theirs looked as bad as the pictures I've seen, and Z's above is the worst.
