my chicken was fine this morning but after laying an egg she was lying down and cant use her legs, although she can grip with one of the claws, shes eating pooing and drinking fine and is alert but can stand. i took her to the vet who knows a tiny bit about birds, she checked her over, did temperature etc and said shes fine theres no explanation, ive got her in my kitchen in some straw and gave her some vitamin e with selenium. but can anyone advise me please? thankyou!

How old is she and has she been laying? Maybe she hurt herself? Someone will have some help, sorry I can't. Maybe you can share a little more info like how are the others acting? Good luck.

ah thanks, shes only just started laying in the last 2 weeks, shes with 6 others who are all fine, she was normal at half 6 this morning then at 11 i found her lying on her just layed egg and couldnt move, she looked dead at first very stiff, the vet checked her vent etc couldnt see anything abnormal, but shes not a great expert on chickens, she said she would look it up but think ill get more info on here!

a week on she is able to push herself up to nearly standing, but after about 10 seconds drops back down, she can move her wings a bit and is using them to balance, been moving her legs and holding her to take the weight on them, shes still eating, been giving her lots of spinach! and vitamin e, did try meloxicam but didnt seem to make any difference

yesterday she managed a few steps and made it into the box to lay an egg! 9 days after she went paralized

today shes been walking a little bit more and standing to eat instead of floping back down, better but still no where near back to normal

Try giving her some calcium and look up egg laying fatigue. This sometimes happens to cows (milk fever) and the way they fix them is with calcium. Sure won't hurt to try.
