Heredia, Costa Rica
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the welcome. I'm joining from Costa Rica, (as others I see)! My husband and I are missionaries here, living in the Heredia province. We first came to Costa Rica back in 1974 with a Texas businessman - developing a ranch for him and since then we just keep coming back. Now we have a small property where we work and do some environmental projects and training for missionaries to learn and take with them around the world - basic survival techniques and such. We have a couple horses, about 10 goats, dogs, cats and chickens - along with good size garden, and an acuaponics system with tilapia. I love working with animals and nature - but always on the learning side ....

I recently built a homemade incubator and have had amazing results with it! It's been so much fun! So, one of my reasons for checking the internet and finding this site was looking for a source of fertilized eggs and some of the rarer type breeds. There's not a lot of information it seems to find specific breeds of chickens in Costa Rica. I'm interested in getting some of the Easter egg varieties, and some Brahman chickens, maybe some others. If anyone knows how to help me, I'd appreciate it! Thanks a bunch!

Amen, thanks for your reply! Where is Mountain Peaks? I grew up in Colorado, but Costa Rica is great for mountains, but lacking the snow and ice. I gained the ocean instead!

Hi there,
frow.gif
and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you are living the good life down there! I think you are better off with the ocean instead of all the snow. You can have ours. LOL

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Do you know what the import laws are there so far as hatching eggs or chickens are, that would be the big question. BYC has a pretty busy Buy-Sell-Trade forum with a lot of different breeds available if you are able to import them.

Yes I agree with you TwoCrows - I just came back from spending Christmas with our kids in CO - it was cold - although we didn't get much snow! I could hardly stand it - it's been 9 years since we've experienced "winter" - I don't think we'll repeat that too soon! LOL

Kelsie2290 - Thanks for the input - yes I need to check into the import laws as far as getting chickens or eggs - I'm not sure where to go, but will begin asking around. As far as hatching eggs in an incubator, there seems to be no problem for individuals to do that. But import duties are terrible here - they typically will cost the same or more than your investment - it's terrible!

Welcome to BYC. Several years ago my wife and I were lucky enough to visit Costa Rico. We loved the country and the people.
