Have lost amost all my chickens ~ mystery disease ~ HELP PLEASE !

FYI...
Safeguard is 100mg/ml fenbendazole, so .5ml = 50mg
Weight in kg x .5ml = Safeguard dose (5.9 x .5ml = 2.95ml)

This is why I weigh in kg, the math is so much easier, lol.

IF in fact it's Blackhead, treat the protozoa first with the metronidazole for 5 days. Then use valbazen or safeguard to kill the cecal worm that carries the protozoa. Then repeat dosing with either wormer again in 10 days. Forget ivermectin.
You dont want to be shoving everything down their throats at once. Organ damage or death could possibly occur...besides, they're under enough stress as it is.

Does the poop look like any of these? These were from a peachick that had blackhead, e. Coli and I think it also had a yeast infection.

Kathy re; poo pics. Yes pic. # 1 and # 3. Just a medium light yellow about the color of sulfur dust. Bottom feathers get real dirty with poo. This dumb roo also refues to roost. Sits on the ground . I put down hay for him to sleep on (its been cold) he moves as much off the hay as possible. Maybe he has a higher than norm body temp. Going to check on again right now and give Metron. THANKS AGAIN !

I agree that treating the protozoa is important, but so is treating e.Coli, and if this has been going on long enough that the bird has lost a noticeable amount of weight, I'd be willing to bet that it also has e. Coli *if* blackhead is the reason it's sick. I usually notice my birds are sick way before it progresses to this point, so most of the time I just treat with metronidazole and Safeguard, but there have been several times that I've also had to treat with Baytril at the same time.

It probably doesn't matter if one worms now or five days later, then ten days after that, but I choose to worm the day I give the metronidazole, and I've even done them both five days in a row just because I didn't know if I was dealing with blackhead or capillary worms.

Whenever possible it's always best to consult with a vet. Vets can tell very quickly if you have a bacterial and/or fungal infection and prescribe the needed meds.

THANKS DAWG 53 ! You and Kathy always have some great advise. I want to get more chicks in the spring but if this "whatever" keeps killing them, whats the use ? I got a (very expensive) dog to protect from preditors, now this. Dog is Kangal ~ AWSOME never had a dog like him or this smart and I have had a lot of dogs. Rescues, Akitas, Labs, Shepards etc. Thanks again.

Kathy, OH DANG ! Okay you are correct. It has turned cold, windy and rainey today. BUT I JUST GOT THE "HOSPITAL " ROOM (guest bathroom) CLEANED UP FROM THE LAST SICK CHICK. It was attack by a dog. Okay going to go get Splish ~ the other J.E. splash roo is Splash. Thank you (and DAWG 53) very much.
