NO EMERGENCY: How to trim a crossed beak?

I'm not sure if it's too late to help this guy or not.

My mom, who lives with me, wanted a Tolbunt Polish. A woman who lives near me had two she wanted to give away because they were disabled, and could not be bred. My mom took them. They were born on October 20th, which makes them a little over 4 months old.

The pullet has a crooked spine.

The cockerel has a crossed beak. He can eat, and he can drink. I have read up on crossed beak a little, and saw how there are people who trim the beaks to help them get nourishment easier. Is this boy too old to try this on? And if he's not, how in the world do I go about doing it??? I don't want to cause more harm than good!





 
No that's not what I mean. All it says is what to use, and if you cut too deep, to use something to stop the bleeding. I need to know how to trim it, meaning how much to start, do I just do the top or the bottom too, etc.
 
I'll follow your thread as I have a young bird that has a beak problem also. It isn't crossed yet. The top beak is curved or hooked. The bottom seems to be too long and he can't close his mouth. He eats and drinks fine, but he kinda gulps the water down. Anyway I post a thread yesterday and waiting for any replys. Beautiful bird BTW. Hmmm, I've had to trim parrot beaks actually used a course emery board type nail file. But chickens are different. Good luck. Magpie

Start with the top beak and trim a small amount until you are more comfortable doing this,beaks have a quick just like nails,so if you hit the quick it will bleed profusely this is why you should always have some sort of blood stop product on hand.
