A few months ago our neighbor found two pekin ducklings by the park river near our house. They were most likely abandoned but our neighbor didn't want to keep them so dad built an awesome pen and welcomed stanley and spencer into our family.
Now they are grown ducks and I noticed Stanley getting really snapping or he would run at me from a distance and nio my toes, he started to get worse and worse and I also noticed Spencer was actually a Stella.
I understand his just looking out for his girl but how I can show him I'm not a threat or get him to calm down a bit. Also some times I've noticed stanley will do the same to my mother, sister in law and nieces and nephews but not other males.
Oh and if it helps Stella laid her first egg on Saturday but I think it's possibly not fertile?

Try hand feeding them. Stop putting their food in a feeder or spreading in the grass, make them come to you for food. I sit on a small stool and let them walk to the food in my extended hand. It takes even longer with strangers. They tend to run away if I walk towards them with food in my hand.

My male has lost the shyness he had a few months ago. The female will eat from my hand, but otherwise keeps her distance. My male will nip as well, but I think he just wants my attention. I think they are just used to seeing me around by now and feeding them everyday. Also, quick movements spook them, so approach them slowly and take your time. I've noticed that ducks have different personalities as well. My male is social and curious, the female not so much so. (My wife swears the female spends her time nagging the male)

Oh sorry I should of mentioned before they started doing the hanky they used to eat from my hands but this behaviour from Stanley was sudden I can usually get stanley to eat from my hand but then he just starts bitting and pecking

angeliduck, it may be that Stanley wants to be - umm, he may want to mate with you. That happens in the spring. Hormones. Drives'em nuts. So they want to mate with anyone they think might be female.

A lot of males get like this at this time of year. He's trying to dominate you and treat you like one of his girls. I know other people have more tricks with dealing with this than I do. Picking him up and holding him down, gently, in a submissive position can help, temporarily. He may get better after breeding season is over.

But that's the thing were in the southern hemisphere (Australia) so were ending summer and coming into autum. Originally I did think it may have been their sort of mating season and that's why he was going after the ladies but im not too sure

I have heard of this and tried it a few times but it just seemed to make him more snappy however the first time I did try this he was a bit cautious approaching me the next time I was outside but it didn't know last long
