Found a 500 gram banty last night with a stuck egg, so I put her in a nest in a dark room. No egg this morning so I let her out to eat and drink then I gave her .6ml (138mg) calcium gluconate and the contents of a vit E gel pill, put her back in the nest I made and 30 minutes later she laid an egg. No bathing, no lube, just the calcium and E.

What a great idea! I would not have thought of using that for an egg bound hen - brilliant!!

What made you think of it???

I did a bunch of research on egg binding and kept seeing references to giving calcium, E, D3 and a couple other things, then I saw an episode of Dr. Pol where he treated a hypocalcemic cow with it, so I did another search and found it at TSC. In the past I had used just calcium pills, but those would take longer to to work. Now Calcium Gluconate is one of my first aid kit "must" haves for sure.

So I just found another hen... While I don't think she's egg bound, she has been laying funny shaped eggs with very thin shells, so at 2:14 I gave her .5ml calcium and some E and put her in the nest.

Darn, I forgot about her, lol. It's 2:54 and she laid her egg, just not sure when. It's pretty cool, so if I had to guess I'd say she laid it about 10-15 minutes ago. Link the others, it's a funny shape, but the shell feels pretty good, so maybe she's been eating more oyster shell.

I'm glad others watch Dr Pol, he does some interesting things that help out with our home remedy of our hens and critters. I'll have to pick up that Calcium Gluconate at the feed store too. It seems it would help faster.
