To treat or not to treat for cocci?

Question: what happens if I treat my flock for cocci but they really don't have it?

Background: I'm new to raising chicks. I bought 6 pullets from TSC and then decided to get another 7 from a local chick farm that had specific breeds (frizzle, tolbunt and silver Wyandotte). The silver died on Sunday but I think the drastic temp changes caused it. And then I lost a fizzle yesterday. I tried everything to keep the frizzle alive. Kept her indoors, regulated temp, and gave her electrolyte water every hour by dropper. Now I'm suspecting cocci. I never have seen blood in stools nor do I know what droopy wings or pale comb should look like. Today I'm either paranoid (which could be possible) but the tolbunt seems isolated and a bit somnolent. I'm already putting ACV and electrolytes and vitamins in their water.

Should I treat w corid just to be on the safe side? TIA

6 pullets from tsc 4 weeks ago tomorrow so probably 5 weeks old. Newbies are all 3 weeks and younger. The tolbunt I'm worried about looks about 3 weeks to me (from watching the others grow)

Birds can be overloaded with cocci without seeing blood in feces. I'd run a course of corid through them, it wont hurt them even if they dont have cocci.

OK

Yes I agree with dawg53. I won't raise chicks without Corid on hand anymore.

I have read not to give vitamins at the same time as Corid, since it is a thiamine blocker. Corid is from the cattle section of the feed store. I give 9.5 ml of the 9.6% solution, per gallon of drinking water (dribble a little alongside the beak of the ones who aren't drinking, of the medicated water mixture).

What I do is give it for 5 days as the sole source of drinking water. You should see improvement within 24 hours from my experience.

I hope they feel better soon and I am sorry for your losses.

Thanks so much! I'm so stressed about losing them! At what age have they built an immunity to cocci and we are over the hill? Hearing the words thiamine blocker- doesn't that do something else to them so I should be on the look out for them looking drunk bc they can't process something else? I think I remember hearing something about that....

Give twice recommend dose first day give freshly mixed water regular dose every day for 4 days thereafter It won't hurt chicks. On sixth day and thereafter give vitamins and electrolytes in water. And remember to quaranteed all incoming chicks and give a cycle of corid just in case. They never become immune but do build a tolerance

Don't overthink it. Treat them because of the present danger. That's your priority and your real danger.

It's not an age thing. It takes them about 2 to 3 weeks of constant exposure for them to develop immunity. Those three weeks start when they are exposed, it doesn't matter if they are one day old or one year old.

There are several different strains of the bug that causes Coccidiosis. Immunity to one does not give immunity to all of them. Even if they develop immunity to the strain that's hitting them now, if they are exposed to a different stain they can still come down with it again. it doesn't affect that many flocks but when it hits it can be deadly. Treat it now!

I bought the 20% powder so I put 1/2 tsp in a gallon of water. So are you saying I should put 1 tsp in there today?

That's what I have always done an old man told me once to double the dose to overwhelm the load of cocci then regular dose for 4 days instead of carrying it out for 7 days cause it's harder on the chick then vitins and electrolytes
