So I ordered 10 Muscovy ducklings and then got an offer for 12+ eggs so I accepted that as well. Very excited for both but now I am realizing I might not be set up right for hatching duck eggs.

I have a hovabator genesis with the digital control center and a little giant egg turner. Can I use the egg turner for Muscovy duck eggs? The reason I am asking is that the duck eggs are larger than chicken eggs and I am worried they will end up cracked or banged up from being in the turner made for chicken eggs.

Has anyone used this before?

Also does anyone have any brooder designs they have used for Muscovy ducklings that have worked well. I would love to see ideas that people have come up with. I have heard that they are very messy in their brooders. How do you set your brooders up and how often do you clean them out. My idea is to set them up inside the greenhouse so they will actually be on a dirt floor rather than shavings with grit feed and water. That way if they make a mess with the water it will just soak in to the ground and if the area gets too bad I can just move the whole set up to another area. Do you think this will work?

I saw the sticky up above and I ready yinepu's thread on hatching muscovies. They mention using a turner in there but I wasn't sure if the turners come with a larger size hole for duck eggs rather than the rails that I have for chicken eggs. I just don't want to get the eggs on Wednesday next week and then find out I am missing something I need.

I tried tilting them today. Still haven't heard from Yinepu so I tried to tilt them 45 degrees and ended up with laying them down instead as this seemed more stable. Tilting them they kept sliding back into the holes and wouldn't stay tilted. Then again these eggs are about double the size of my chicken eggs that I normal incubate so they don't fit the turner too well.

As of tonight when I did the cool down 11 out of 17 were growing and all were moving in the eggs. All the other 6 were duds one of which was cracked when it got here. I will weigh them tomorrow to make sure they lost the 5.6% weight that they needed to in order to be on schedule. If not I will adjust humidity accordingly.

Was checking the calendar and it looks like I stop turning the eggs on the 15th of June and hatch starts from the 18th and goes to the 23rd. Can't wait to see who hatches.

I've been incubating 3 Muscovy eggs that fell out of a net in a tree and I was wondering if anyone can look at these videos and tell me how far into the 35 days they may be. We found one egg on May 16th and the other 2 on May 18th but we don't know how long they were in the nest before they were dropped. Thanks

1st and 3rd in the video seem like they have a lot of black in them. That's the baby so they are pretty far along. At least 21 days or so. The middle 2nd eggs seems far less developed. All you see is a little black dot not too much growth yet. So it may be 5 to 7 days along. I'm not an expert though but that is where I would put them I think.

Thank you for the reply. I don't know if it's possible but the second egg that is lighter in the coloring then the other 2 is the same age as the others so I'm not sure if for some reason that baby is developing at a slower rate. The first egg fell out of the nest on May 16th and the other two on May 18th so that's how long we have been incubating them in a home made incubator.

26 days incubation today and 11 eggs still going strong. I will try and post pictures when I candle next. Some of the eggs have very weird air cells and I would love thoughts on whether they should be okay or not. So far the babies are still moving but then again they have 7 more days to go before they go into hatching. Starting to get exciting yet scary.

That's great that they are still doing well!

Please post pics if you candle them I would love to see them. I took some pictures a couple of nights ago of the air pockets of the three eggs I have looking for some feed back as to if they look ok and I haven't heard anything so I would love to have something to compare them too.
