My gosling came out of the wrong part off the egg. It didn't pop the air cell, but its beak is out so it can breathe. Can it still hatch naturally?

My gosling came out of the wrong part off the egg. It didn't pop the air cell, but its beak is out so it can breathe. Can it still hatch naturally?
Yes it can! This just means you need to give it Extra time! It has skipped the internal pip, but you will need to treat it as if it hadnt skipped it. Give it the same amount of time as you would on one that would iternal pip, external pip and hatch. Just keep an eye on him and make sure he doesnt shrink wrap in the membrane. With a backwards pip if do not allow that extra time there is more of a chance he wont make it if you try to assist too early.

Ok thanks. What is the maximum amount of time I should allow before assisting?
Atleast 36-48 hrs. I had 4 ducklings do this same thing. All hatched on their own once i was told to allow them the proper time of a normal hatch. Just watch for shrink wrapping of the membrane and listen for weak peeping. He should be fine though.

I am a new hatcher and have not had shrink wrap yet (to my knowledge). Could you tell me how you can tell if a baby is shrink wrapping? And what should I do if this occurs?
Shrink wrapping is when the membrane of the egg dries out and tightens around the gosling restricting its ability to move enough to be able to hatch.
If this happens you can start to assist it but slowly and using a Q-tip with warm water as you go to moisten the membrane. If it bleeds stop, then wrap it in a warm wet cloth or paper towel leaving the pip hole exposed so it can breathe and put it back into the incubator for awhile. Then try again. Eventually you will be able to get him out safely

It will be alright. Two eggs left this year, set for the eleventh. So far so good!
