Hey all.

I've posted a bit elsewhere first, but I lurked and here for weeks before deciding to just cave in and join.

I'm super impressed by how active and helpful everything is.

I didn't want us to get ducks at first, long story short is that nobody in our family knew anything about ducks or had anything ready for them and I wasn't sure they should be a spontaneous thing. I also am not overly fond of birds inside the house, but that's less of a problem lately.

Despite not wanting to really get involved, I ended up being pretty much in charge of these silly babies. They grew on me REALLY quickly, and now I love them like I love my cat.

Two Khaki Campbell's we picked up around Easter, they seem to be teenagers now- voices changing, looking really awkward, and being pretty feisty and mischievous. I've named them Marius and Cosette, but I'm still not sure on the sex. They sound very different, so I'm thinking one of each.

I might make a thread over in ducks about them and my first time involved with ducks/birds.

You may be right in thinking their different sounds = different sexes. I know next to nothing about ducks but, on BYC I once read that in some breed the females quack and the males make hissing sounds.

A one way to tell what sex teenager/adult ducks are, is to look at their tell feathers. The females will be normal, and the males will have occasional tail feathers that curl up.

Yeah, I read about that but for now they have the same tails. The only big difference I've seen in feathers is the one I think is a guy has much larger wings and shows them off much more. Other than that and the white bib, they're very similar.

Welcome to BYC!

I don't know anything about ducks other than how cute they are and I love the quacking!

Enjoy your ducks and welcome to our flock!

Thanks all!

I had seen the contest thing but I don't think I've hit twenty posts. Then again, since it's posts and not threads, I might have?

I'm kind of surprised at how much time I'm spending on here. There's just so much to read and learn.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Yes, BYC is addictive, you will spend lots of time on here! Good luck with your ducklings!
