My Chicklets (Henny and Penny) are 4 weeks now and are such a joy! I decided to get chickens for several reasons - for bug control, fertilizer, eggs, to get me outside watching Chick TV instead of inside watching drivel, and to satisfy my bird love.
I joined BYC because I got a lot of great info for building my coop and to be part of a wonderful online chicken-loving community. I live in Davis, CA which has the Tour De Cluck where many people open their backyards to show off their coops and flocks, but it only happens once a year.
So far I've trained my girls to come to me when I say, "Hey Chicklets" and Penny, the Auaracana, comes to sit on my lap when I sit with them outside. They have been free-ranging in my small, fenced side yard since day 3 and I love hanging out with them!

My cats have also been entranced by them and now help me babysit them, too.

Welcome to BYC!

Your babies are adorable!! Sounds like you are spoiling rotten already and they will have you perfectly trained up in no time!

It is hard NOT to spoil them too.

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!

Cute chicks.

Glad your cats don't attack them.

My cats just sit and stare through the cage at them until they decide they can't penetrate the run then go off and hunt elsewhere.

Johnzan,
My cats really wanted to eat them at first and stared with big ole prey-eyes for the first couple weeks.

I had to do a lot of supervising and grabbing of cats when they stalked too close, but they caught on. And I am pretty lucky to have such smart and agreeable predators. :)
