Anyone here with experience feeding orphaned finches or sparrows? Found one today and could use some advice.

Thanks,
Kathy

What a cutie!

We did this years ago when one of the kids found a newly hatched sparrow laying in the yard. We used purina cat chow and warm water in the blender and fed it with an eyedropper. That's what the bird rescue recommended, and it worked. We kept her in an open top cardboard box with layers of paper towels in the bottom, and always on a heating pad. If you have a brooder that would probably be the best place for it.

Our "Sputzie" never reached full size and was terrified of the outdoors. She lived in our house for her 3+ years as a pet. :)

I've raised many a baby bird on raw hamburger...sounds sick, but it works beautifully! And they always grew so fast eating it. I asked a family friend (who is a veterinarian) how to do it and she recommended doing this... using a pair of tweezers to feed bits of hamburger, and an eye dropper or syringe (without the needle of course) to give them water. I've raised robins, flycatchers, barn swallows, meadowlarks all with great success like this. :) I hope that helps!

Thanks both of you! I have been tubing Kaytee Baby Bird Food to them (found another) and they seem to be doing okay on it.

and they are sooo cute when they do the 'feed me I'm starving look' lol!
They do that every time I walk by, even when their crops are stuffed full!
