There was once a hen named Spot that had 14 chicks! Sadly 10 of those were taken by wild a beast (a hawk)! So she inspired me to build up more protection for the beloved broodies and their chicks! The beloveds now stay in a little run called the MOTHERS ROOM!!! There the beloved broodies and their chicks stay until the are old enough ( the mother weans them) to go and live with the flock again!

So here is a little info on the Mothers room:
1- It has a nice sized waterbowl on a raised platform with a pile do wood next to out so that the chicks can get on! It is raised so that the beloveds don't dog and then dirty the water!
2- There is a feeder that can store a lot of food in it for the chicks!
3- It has a roasting ladder for the older chicks and the new chickens. We sometimes buy new hens and then they stay in there for a week to learn that this is their new home!
4- It is a nice size and can fit 10 broodies in.
5- It has 2 doors that none can definitely get in!!!!

Right now there are 3 hens in there and 20 chicks. There are also 2 pullets as I just bought them. There are six more broodies that are due sometime soon that will be joining the beloveds in the Mother Room!

I will be keeping this thread updated when new broodies/hen come and leave. I will try and post some pics soon. My phone can't upload pics so will upload later on my PC!!

Please will someone help me by giving me a name for this thread. :/
Thanx

OK so here are the the pics!!!!

So this is the "little run that they stay in!

Here is a better pic of the run.

It is always shut and locked (with a stick - just to make sure the door doesn't open!)

It has 2 doors! Both of them are chick/rat/hawk proof! I say chick because I mean that the chicks cant get out of the run!

It has a HUGE water tank/bottle that always stays full! It is on a raised platform so that it cannot get soiled when the mothers dig! There is a pile of wood next to the platform so that the chicks can climb on!

This is HennyPenny at the feeder! The feeder has an area inside of it where you can store food so that it doesn't finish very quickly! It cannot be opened at the top. It was open in the pic 'cause it was almost empty and I wanted to fill it up before the pic was taken but I didn't!

There is a biggish run for them to run around. Every week i put 1 sack of leaves for them to dig in. I also put in 1 wheelbarrow of compost in.

There is a roost for the older chicks and for the mothers who are "tired". We also have the roost because sometimes we buy new chickens, we then keep them in the Mothers Room. In there they learn their new environment and also where their new home is!

AT THE MOMENT
At the moment we have 5 hens in the Mothers room. 2 of these are pullets that we recently acquired!

This is HennyPenny and her very young chicks. There were/are 8!!!

This is spot (you can see why in the pic) she has 4 chicks. She was the one who inspired me to build the mothers coop!

These are the 2 new pullets. We still haven't named them so if anyone has an idea please tell me!!!!

This is Puffball! She has 8 chicks and she is the tamest of all my chickens (even her chicks are tame - it is sooo cute)

One last thing......there is a nest box in the Mothers Room so that the new chicken can lay their eggs! There us also a nest box so that the mothers who have weaned the chicks can lay their eggs! This is one indication to me that they are ready to leave their chicks!

So that's it and i will be updating daily/weekly for all the new info and cute pics!

Please subscribe and follow my Story (dont know what else to call it - isn't really a story HAHAHA)

OK forgot to add this to the pics! These are the broodies that will be moving into the Mothers Room tomorrow!

This is Venture in her little chick hatching box!

These are her chicks! She had 7. 2 of them are black/brown and the others are black!

This is Fluffy in her chick hatching box!

She had 8 beautiful chicks!

This is Snowflake in her chick hatching box!

She had 11 chicks. Sadly 7 of them are roosters!

I will post some pics of them in the Mothers Room tomorrow! There are also 4 new chooks! Will post pics and give info tomorrow!

Ok so first things first....I have decided to rename the Mothers Room to the MOTHERS RUN!
I have also named this thread the Broody Coop

Ok so let me get to the point of this post. I told you guys we got some new chickens! We got 2 point of lay hens (don't know what breed they are) and 2 RIR pullets!
So here they are....

These are the 2 RIR's. We don't have names for them yet but are expecting to have some soon!

This is Snow White! She is a very tame girl and every time I come into the coop she and her sister (Scarlet) come running. Its sooo cute to see!. She had a bit of bad luck 'cause the tip of her beak has been cut off so she can't really fight so well. Luckily she is coping along...

This is Scarlet scratching in the dust! She also has the same problem as her sister (Snow White) with her cut off beak! It was so sad to see (it even made me cry) that when I put them down for the first time (in their whole entire life) they just ran to the dust started digging and having a dust bath!

Here is Snow White being very Inquisitive!

They each give us an egg every day (from the first day). Their eggs are soo delicious!!!!!

To get back to the story!

This is Fluffy with her 2 day old chicks!

Snowflake and her chicks. I love the way that they are so protective over their chicks!

Venture and her chicks!

When we put them in the Mothers Run it was very cute 'cause they all got mixed up on who was whose mother. They where following the wrong mothers!! After about an hour they will all back with their own proper mothers!

There will be more coming SOON

All the new broodies (Fluffy, Venture and Snowflake) and he new hens/pullets (Layers/RIR's) are sleeping outside for the first times! The broodies have found a nice little place for them and their chicks to sleep in. The rest are sleeping on the roost. I have now noticed that Spot is starting to slowly wean her chicks....I guess she will be going out soon!
Goodnight to everyone. And goodmorning/goodday to some!

Sorry for all the pics....but I have to!

So we have another broody, Sparkle, that will be joining us in the Mothers Coop in 3 weeks. She is broody in the old rabbit hutch right now right next to the Mothers Coop!

This is her! I love her 'cause she is sweet and is very beautiful!

She has 15 eggs.

Oh... moved the waterer down to floor level 'cause the young chicks couldn't get up for some reason!!!
Sorry it's so dirty I do clean it 3 times a day!

Here they all are as happy as Larry!

This is the Naked Neck I had to break from being broody 'cause I forgot to give her fertile eggs!

HennyPenny was in a serious fight with Snowflake! She lost a lot of feathers on her neck!

Here is Spot teaching her chicks how to roost ( in daylight HAHAHAHAHA)

My fave chick from Spot! It's a roo and I will be keeping it!

Snowball and her chicks eating. They are getting very big now!

Spot and her chicks eating some cabbage (I know it's not good for them but I give it to them in small amounts weekly/monthly!)

There will be more coming up. I hope you guys are enjoying it!

I keep our water on a raised platform. For the smaller birds I use 2x2's under plywood, maybe 3 foot square with the water in the middle....really stops that 3 times a day cleaning nonsense! LOL For bigger birds I use 2x4's with a 4x4 peice of plywood on top. have also thrown a peice of wood on cinder blocks.
