The Broody Coop - Stories, Info, Pics etc.

Anyway Spots chicks are doing well without her in the coop. went to check up on them at dusk and they were all already sleeping on the roost! They were not chirping ore anything so they seem fine for now.....I hope!
Everybody else is fine and asleep.
I put a sprinkler in the Mothers Run today (nobody was in it) just to make all the worms come up to the top and to loosen up the soil a bit! When I let them in they al had a blast. The RIR's and the Layers were very happy as it was their first time seeing mud!!

Spots chicks have left the mothers Run today and seem very happy with it! They love to dig and have dust baths. Meanwhile the other chicks are all getting big. Hopefully there will be some more chooks going broody that can come and join the Mothers Run flock!!

All is going well with Spot and her chicks! I decided to let the chicks out today so hat they could go with mom for a while so that she could integrate them into the flock! At noon when I went to check up on them they were all already sleeping on the roost! They must be one happy family! They are sleeping on the outside roost with all the big chickens!
They are growing up sooo fast!!!

Close up of the only boy (keeping him but don't have a name yet!). He was snuggling up to Mom!!!!

RIR's and layers were all sleepy on the top roost in the Mothers Run!!! The layers from left to right - Scarlet and Snow White!

The 2 black pullets (still nameless) like to sleep on the bent iron pole that is holding up the roost as its one leg is shorter than the other

It is not day here my camera just has a flash for those who thought about it!!!!

So yesterday I found out that some of Snowballs chicks have fowl pox

Anyway I cant wait till Friday as another hen will be joining us! Her name is Goldie! There is quite a story behind her broodiness! Here it goes....
Goldie and my one naked neck were both laying in the same nest box when the Naked Neck decided she wanted to go broody! It then struck Goldie that she also wanted to go broody! I felt sorry for her and made another nest box next to the Naked Necks nest and she luckily decided that WILL be her nest! So anyway after 2 weeks of being broody I noticed that the Naked Neck had unfertile eggs (I forgot to give her fertile ones

) So I broke her from being broody! Then Goldie decided to move her eggs to the Naked Necks old nest! When I went to check up on her the next morning she was in the NN's nest!
So I ant wait for her little chickies to hatch! Sadly I will be going on that Friday and then only coming back on the Monday! I might take her with me(if her chicks have started to hatch) if not then I will be hoping that all goes well!
Oh yes....I am also happy for Goldie 'cause it is her first time!!!!
*Sorry no pics...*

I have two hens,a EE named Cookie and a Buff Orpington named Honey that when they start going broody they do it Together! It's the oddest thing! They are stuck like glue even out of the nest!and the last time they were broody they looked like a molting, feather duster that was stuck in a blender!XD they are hilarious! When I have room for broodies I definitely have to put eggs under them, but will having two hens damage the nest? They won't brood apart..believe me I've tried!!

Hahahaha your broodies sound adorable :love
And yes I have had success with two broodies together. They may just break one or two eggs :idunno

Funny...every body post on the roost should be this or that, round or flat, this size, that size.....never read a single post that said it should be re-bar!! LOL
And you know there is absolutely no chance of convincing them that is not a proper roosting spot!!!
