Old Fashion Broody Duck Thread 2015 Edition

I searched and didn't find a thread for this year, so I guess I'm starting one! LOL

My pekin hen, Delilah, has a nest again this year.
She's nesting right back in the same spot she's nesting in for 3 years in a row now.
Two days ago I counted 11 eggs in her nest.
I keep thinking she'll go to set any day now, but so far she hasn't.
She's on her own timeline not mine, so I just wait and watch.
I hope she decides to start sitting full time soon.



Last year she successfully hatched out 10 ducklings with 8 making it to adulthood.

Very cute! Had my 2 girls go broody last year, (well one was more of the helper) they hatched out 3 girls, but that was in September. No Broodies so far. Good luck keep us posted!

Delilah has gone to nest to set as of today!!!

The rest of the flock is resting along the edge of the lake but Delilah is on her nest up by the house!

The past 2 times she's set, the hatch began on day 33 with the last one hatching on day 36.

Now I wait.....

We have 3 broody ducks (Daisy, Daphne and Della). It all started on 3/3/15. We had 2 ducklings born and then one disappeared. Can't find body. Don't have any idea what happened. The lone survivor is running around and even went in the water yesterday w/ mama. This morning Della got up and I saw a baby under her that had to have been born last night. The mamas move eggs from nest to nest a lot. I was able to count eggs in one nest and there are 15, so I'm sure we are in for more. They scoot the dead ones out of the duck house. Found the latest one this morning laying by Dolly outside. That makes 2 that have been discarded due to dying in shell. Its still cold here. Guess that why its taking so long.....

Well.....she hasn't committed yet after all.
She's been off and on. I counted today and there's 15 eggs in the nest.
I know she can do it cause she hatched out 10 last year. She just hasn't committed to doing it this time yet.

When I let my ducks out this morning. I saw a perfectly round nest made in the corner lol

Oh my! I have 5 girls (3 would be first time egg layers this spring) well I've been collecting 2-3 eggs this past week. Well went to get eggs today, got 2. THEN noticed in the (empty) nest someone made the other day in the corner there was 12 eggs piled up!!!! WHAT???!!!! I don't know how the heck they had them hidden so well that I didn't notice they were hiding many! Instill can figure out how that many was hidden without me knowing/noticing! So yeah collected them all. I do not need anymore ducks right now lol!!!!

My Perdy, a grey call, is almost 9 months old and sitting on her very first nest of 9 eggs!
