No Crow Rooster Collar?

Has anyone dealt with the NC Rooster Collar? I MIGHT get a couple of straight run silkie chicks and that means I might get a rooster.

2 questions:

1. Does the collar work?

2. How badly does it deface your chicken? I saw this picture and I was horrified

It really badly defaces this rooster. Is there a way to hide it a bit more? Especially if I'm getting silkies this is a big problem.

Thank you!

the collar does work it makes it so they cannot swell and stretch their neck to get enough air to crow I personally do not like it and i think it is dangerous but i have never used it there is no other way to hide it IMO if you own a unwanted rooster you should get rid of it instead of choke it just my 2 cents

I am not allowed to have roosters here so no personal experience with no crow collars but I have a close friend who uses them.

She has had issues getting the collar just right, too loose and it is totally ineffective and as enola mentioned, too tight and they can choke to death.

There are quite a few threads on BYC regarding no crow collars and people's experience with them that might be worth checking out.
