So, from what I've read, a nipple watering system is the most efficient and cleanest way? I am totally new to this so please excuse my ignorance. We have 3 eight week old girls that are coop training right now, and this morning (day 2 of being locked in the coop) their water bowl was full of poop and straw, which I'm sure is not good for them! The closest feed store is an hour away so I can't just run to get a nipple waterer, HOWEVER... there is a petsmart here in town that may have something I could substitute. Unless there is a Diy version? I'm pretty handy with a screw gun and saw so I could def build something, given the right idea!

You can order nipples or cups online and attach them to a bucket or cooler. Plenty of directions for making those on the forum. I've never seen anything at a PetSmart that would work as a substitution.

I actually just made my first set of drip watering buckets. One in a 1 gallon bucket for the brooder and a 3 gallon bucket for the coop. It took about 10 minutes in my living room, a drill, and the poultry nipples ($0.75 each at my local store). Our chicks and older chickens took right to it. I found the idea on here but the guy at our feed store, said to just get a drill bit the size of the smallest part of the threaded part of the nipple. Drill hole in bucket or pipe.... screw in nipple... easy as pie

Could you post a picture of what you built? I'm curious to see how it turned out!

Does anyone have tips on how to get them to use the nipple waterers? My girls are a year old and I've always used a dog water bowl. I bought one of there but they're not getting it.

Thanks

Make sure there is no other water source available.

I've had great success using a laser pointer to get their attention...

Took them less than 30 seconds.

Great idea!

I ordered some red nipples from Amazon a couple days ago, hopefully they'll get here soon! (gosh does that sound weird to anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about! Lol!)
