Hi everyone. haven't been here for a year and are down to 6 chickens. Stripe, Toffee, Shuffle, White toe (barely got her back but shes very healthy now and regaining weight), Cotton (always healthy), and Silver, the mischievous white chook. just have a question, how would this go: raise 2, 1 day old ducks (1 khaki campbell, and 1 Welsh harlequin) in the house in a box then once they are big releasing them into the chicken pen with the chickens? they are all only in the pen from 6 pm to 6 am then are left to graze in the paddocks and lawn. would the ducks integrate to they old chicken flock? or would they get picked on too much? thanks, appreciate any thoughts. :)

I would introduce them over time. Even as ducklings, every bit can help. I don't mean toss them in with the chickens but when the chickens are caged let the ducks roam the yard. Then when the ducks are a little older let both the ducks and chickens roam the yard. Then when the ducks are all feathered or so introduced them to the inside of the pen. Always be there to supervise!

Yes, i would always watch them when they are little, i would only leave to them roam the yard when they are 2/3 size, still with frequent supervision, i would like the ducks to be introduced into the pen as soon as possible so that they always will go back there to sleep and not in the creek. thanks, Thomas.
