This is such a great topic! I’ve been navigating the goose/duck thing for a couple years now, since I added Welsh Harlequins to my goose yard.
Cecelia, your run sounds amazing, especially your large pond! My Sebastopols don’t have a pond, but they enjoy their kiddie pools. I have one pair of geese that share a yard (but not sleeping quarters) with one group of ducks. They’re tolerating each other pretty well so far. The geese bully them a little, but so far no one’s gotten hurt and the squabbling has been minimal. My geese just want them to know who’s in charge. It probably helps that the gander was raised with ducklings.
I started with a trio of WHs, and it worked okay. I currently have a group of 7 (1 drake) and a group of 4 (1 drake). I learned not to keep more than one WH drake per group—the competition stressed out my girls. But that could have partly been because the drakes were different ages and had bonded with their own sets of females.
I don’t know if all geese like peas, but mine do!
