I just got a Jersey Giant chick 5 days ago (Making her 6 days old as of today)...
Today I noticed that she has a crooked beak /scissor beak.
This is my first time owning this breed AND having crooked / scissor beak.
I've done some Googling / Youtubing on the matter and now I'm coming to my...
Hey BYC fam! :wee
So I’ve got an interesting girl (pictured) who has a fully crooked beak. It’s not a cross beak, it’s just all slanted to one side. It’s pretty dramatic, I’ve never seen anything like this before that wasn’t actual cross beak, wonder if anyone else has? She’s a red sex link...
A couple weeks ago, I "rescued" some 2ish week old chicks from my local feed store. These poor babies seemed to be the rejects due to one reason or another (having been picked on terribly, very small/poor feathering for their ages, and all with terrible pasty bum). I couldn't bare to see them...
Meet Herky Jerky! (My husband named her lol) She is almost 7 weeks old and we just noticed this week that her beak is doing something strange...it doesn't really look like the scissor beak pictures I've seen, it just looks....crooked? She doesn't have any problems eating/drinking/foraging...
It's more obvious in person, but this 4 week old (ish) chick has a slightly crooked beak. The top and bottom still meet, but will this turn into something worse?
I have a call duckling that hatched with a deformed bill. It looks similar to scissor beak/crooked beak you find in chickens, but I think he only has one nostril. His tongue is also exposed so I’m constantly worried it’s going to dry out and cause him pain or make it difficult to eat. Right now...
In your experiences is this a mild or severe case of scissor beak for a week old chick? Just came on in the past day or two and so far is still eating and drinking... would trimming/filing even help anything if she is eating/drinking/opening&closing beak without issue???I
I have an almost two-week-old chick with a severely crooked beak. It is worse today than even yesterday and makes his whole face look misaligned.
I believe he has trouble eating enough food; he seems to appreciate being handfed.
Is there anything I can do for this chick? Will his beak get worse...
I have a mixed breed baby chick that was supposed to hatch a few days ago and so I candled to check to see if his beak was in the air cell and it was but I could see something didnt look right it looked like 2 beaks in there and I know it wasnt two babies egg wasnt a double yolker . So I opened...
So... I'm unfamiliar with cross beak, but I think one of my chicks has it. It happens tobe my favorite chick too..... Ugh!
Her beak isn't shutting fully.
Not the best pics but if you look closely her beak doesn't shut fully.
Is there any advice for maintaining a good beak shape? Or do I...
Hello!
I am new (& now addicted) to the world of chickens! I have a little guy who seems to be developing what looks like cross beak? He/she is a silkie and 11 days old! Is there anything I can do to prevent this from getting worse? Thanks :)
We found that our 10-day-old-EE pullet, Mercy, had a crooked beak forming around a week ago. Since then, it’s gotten a lot worse visually, but it doesn’t seem to be taking a toll on her quality of life at all. She drinks fine, and though she tends to spend a little bit more time with food than...
I had a chick hatch out about 30 mins ago and I noticed that it has MAJOR crooked break!! It also has crooked toes and is missing an eye. Its skull is deformed to where the eye isn't even there.
I have been hatching chicks for almost 2 months now. I have only been hatching my Black sex links...
My 11-week old Sebright has the mist crooked beak I’ve ever seen. Have y’all seen this before? Is it common? She is maturing & thriving. When she was a chick, her beak was noticeably long & curved, but has evolved into this distortion. Can a vet do anything? Wonder if it will continue to get...
One of my 1 week old hens suddenly started to have a very bad crooked beak. All of a sudden I've noticed in the last couple of days it has been slowly fixing itself and now is almost entirely back to normal. Is there a cause for the sudden crooked beak and sudden fix? Should I be worried that...
In February I purchased 3 emu eggs. I was so excited to start this new journey. In the incubator they go. My Hubby and daughter weigh them once a week to ensure that we were on track. Then we started the wiggle test... so exciting...then the first one started to hatch- we had to help the little...
