Hello I just got 8 adult drakes. They are in a shed I converted into a coop at night and free range in the yard during the day. Trying to find the best bedding that is the least amount of mess and work. Currently have a mix of straw and hemp but heard that’s going to turn disgusting quickly. All...
Using straw in my duck pen, trying to figure out the water corner and our instant fly problem.
I have fly traps which help...a little. Reading other threads I’m going to add fly paper.
Water corner is now a raised bed of pea gravel with decomposed granite on top with water buckets sitting in...
Hi,
We need some advice. We have ended up with a bit of a messy and out of control duck situation.
We've got 10 ducks, we used to let them out for a big chunk of the day with some water for them to swim in, and the rest of the time they were in their run & coop, which isn't huge but was big...
Hi everyone!
So it's about time we made life easier for ourselves! I've wanted to do a drastic overhaul of how we organise the run once we have extended it. At the moment we use pine shavings (big chunky ones) after giving up on straw. It's directly on a dirt floor and we are basically scraping...
Hey there folks.
I've been doing a ton of research in order to build a duck house. When I came across deep litter I liked the idea, but there doesn't seem to be much info on it in regards to ducks.
I read the thread at...
It’s been raining for days and it’s super muddy back there. I put new straw down last night and this morning it’s drench and gross. There isn’t any grass anymore just dirt. So, it gets pretty muddy right now. Straw isn’t working. I’ve seen some people say sand works?
Any advice would be great.
What bedding do you use? Did you change from one to another before deciding on what works best for your ducks?
I was planning on pine shavings (floor is painted plywood), but I am not sure this is the best bedding for ducks? It works well for the chickens though. Of course, I am judging it on...
I am looking for a creative way to contain all the water that seems spray all over my ducks house. When they drink they just splash all over the place and my shavings get soaked. The ducks have a huge pond to play in but I keep fresh clean water in the house that they drink during mealtime...

Hi everyone. I need to build up the ground in the run of the new duck palace we are building. I'm wanting to basically do the deep litter method in the run but I need to fill it to the bottom board to start out with. . should I just fill it with dirt? Layer rock and then dirt for drainage? Ideas...
i am converting an awesome plastic "step 2" playhouse that is 5' x 5' for my 2 peking ducks for a nightime coop.
Would a layer of straw over 6" of sand on a earth floor be ok? I live in the rainy part of oregon. Never had ducks before so not sure of the best way to floor a duck house. Your...
What is your favorite duck coop bedding? I am in the process of building a new duck coop and it will be substantially bigger than their current one. (It will be 7'x12', I have 6 ducks and plan on getting more.) I currently use pine shavings but if I use that in the next coop my costs will...
