It is my hope that Rusty continues to remain a wonderful rooster. Only time will tell, I guess, especially these next few months. Would we call this time, “Chicken Rut?”🤣

Rusty is a ROOSTER! Yay! And so far he is still a good, sweet rooster. I am thrilled.

The dog house isn’t even finished, but the birds cannot leave it alone. Mostly the girls love it, but Rusty does too!

This is how Rusty and the chickens usually greet me as I’m heading up to the coop. They certainly don’t make it easy to walk up the steps.

Rusty and some of the girls on protein cleanup. Yep, I found and shot a snake (a rattlesnake) in my little coop. Horrors of every chicken owner, heck no, every person period!

What a boy won’t do for his girls!?! He helps them find “good” nesting spots, even amongst all the accumulated junk. Rusty is thinking, “If I can’t see you, you cannot see me!” Yes, I believe he’s trying to hide from me. Busted! He knows I’ve found their ‘necking’ spot.

Rusty has no problems with any other pet. Tiger Lily, one of our three barn cats, chilling with him on a hot August afternoon.

Of course Rusty was loved by the new pullets...all twelve of them.

One of Rusty’s loving sessions. Periodically I will pick him up and give him pets, rubs and scratches. And just a few kisses. Yes, he loves it.

The birds had just been given several veggie scraps from the garden. We always give Rusty any “treats” first and let him call his girls over. And they come running.

I watch this cockerel very closely every day for ANY signs of possible aggression. He just acts like one of the girls.

Crowing at 5:32 am. For about a month, I removed Rusty from the coop each morning before all the hens came down off the roost. He was feeling overly amorous in the mornings and would wait for each girl to come down the ramp and he’d nail them. That was causing stress.
