    Pullets and winter laying..

    We have 16 hens (and a rooster) - 6 barred rocks, 6 easter eggers, and 4 welsummers. They were born in August and are about 14 weeks currently if my calculations are right . . . So obviously we're not expecting any eggs yet, but are contemplating the pros and cons of adding supplemental light...

    Quick question... With the days getting shorter I'm considering adding supplemental light to my coop to help with egg laying and am wondering if it's ok to add it to the end of the day rather than the beginning. I have a heavy duty exterior timer that goes on at dusk and can stay on 2, 4, 6 or 8...

    Well, I am down to just two mature hens, a rooster, and their three babies, all of which are silkies. Olly: and Pippin: we were in the mountains to ski and a family member house sat for us. we were gone for 7 days, and we come back to this: Two eggs a day from probably the worst laying breed...
