The apprentice had gone, and with him, the reason for this feat of weaponry. With a shrug, he tucked them under his wing, out of sight of the guards.

"Here, it's probably caustic, but, eh, it's water," he smiled, putting the container to Scarlet's beak.

Carefully Bloodwing extricated Scarlet from the nest, offering his body to lean on while she got her balance. "I know it's no use telling you, but take it slow. You've been unconscious for a few days, and I don't want you swooning over on me while we're running from some angry Sunflockers."

Not until they had gone past the final row of warriors did Bloodwing dare to glance back at the camp, his eyes betraying the nervousness he had felt at the threat of being torn bodily limb from limb in a pit of Sunflock warriors.

"Err, what just happened?" Ambersong demanded, her eyes narrowed at Scarlet.
