"I can't believe you just stood there!" Ambersong growled angrily, pacing back and forth in front of her father with a frown. "She's acting like a little child throwing a temper tantrum! I expected something more mature from a leader."

"Amber," with a tone more serious than she had ever heard before, Bloodwing guided her roughly aside and stared down at her with a snarl. "Who's the one acting like a child? You've hardly even met her and here you are, jumping down her throat because she resigned her commission."

"Resigned?" Amber, tone quieter but no less fiery, stared up at her father with disbelief. "She just . . . tossed it aside! No leader should do that--none!"

"Not another word," Bloodwing growled, dismissing her with a wing and indicating for her to follow him. "What in the world did I do to end up between two hens in a cat fight?" He rolled his eyes. "What would you do without me?"
