"I can hardly remember a thing, either." Aya admitted nervously as she thought, trying to drag out anything besides her brother from her brain, who she remembered like he was trying to kill her yesterday.
"Once we get some real rest and warm up I'm sure it will be different though. But, maybe dragging our memories with us will only hurt us in the long run."
"Yes, I'm sure warmth would help," Madeleine agreed. After walking a few paces, she looked over to Aya as something occurred to her. "Oh, I'm Madeline, by the way. You are...?" In a normal setting, she would have offered her hand in greeting, but this was a far from normal setting and her hands were too occupied keeping her upper arms warm.

Aya smiled in a friendly manner, but quickly put her lips back in a blank expression with embarrassment when the skin cracked slightly in denial.
"That's a very beautiful name. My name is Aya, Aya Mythe." Aya informed her politely.

"Merci," Madeleine said, smiling as best she could. "I was named after my mother, that much I remember. Your name is quite lovely as well. Do you recall any family? Connections?" Her accent bled through her surprisingly decent English, making her blush slightly in embarrassment.

Aya sighed slightly, her breath turning into a white vapor in the air. She didn't want to lie, so Aya decided to dish out the truth.
"Well, yes, actually. I do. I have a brother, who is still unconscious over there. He...Honestly, I'm unfortunately going to be honest about this; he wants me dead. I can't remember everything yet, but what I do remember is him following me, attempting to murder me. I have a long, complicated history with him. I don't know why he turned out like this." She frowned, not liking the fact that she told the truth about this. "I'm sorry. It's...Not really appropriate that I said any of that."

Madeleine focused on Aya's words, and in doing so, distracted herself from the freezing cold momentarily. "Non, no need to apologize," she said with gentle insistence. She glanced over her shoulder in the direction Aya acknowledged. "I'm sorry to hear of such trouble between you. Is he your only sibling?"

Aya nodded slowly.
"Yes, he is. You know, with the famine and corruption of the government back home when we were kids, we needed each other. But something happened, and we were separated..." She took a few moments to remember, "Oh yeah, the government took me. Forgot why, but he tried to find me. I believe it turned him insane. He was all alone for many years, obviously."

Madeleine looked at her, confused about what she was saying. Famine? Corruption? Last she remembered, the government of America had been finally evening out and things were better foodwise than ever. People, or so she thought, were changing their horrid eating habits as word got out about what awful things were being put into packaged foods.
"What famine?" She asked. Was Aya from some third world country?

"What famine?" She asked. Was Aya from some third world country?

Aya looked to Madeleine with a slightly raised eyebrow.
"In 2979, a famine started because of a virus that was wiping out the plants and animals, and getting into humans as well." Aya explained slowly. "Do you live in France, by any chance? You have an accent, but I'm of course not going to assume anything. The famine wasn't in any other place besides America."

Madeleine listened in surprise to what Aya told her. "Oui, but I moved to America for my job. That was," she quickly calculated what she could recall, "two years. I lived in America for two years before things are cloudy. In my head, that is. I'm still not sure of what happened that led to this." She swept her arm through the air. What Aya first said hit her now and she paused, dropping her arm to her side. "2979? What are you talking about?"

"What are you talking about?" Aya questioned back, perplexed. But then she believed she may have figured it out.
"Do you think I mean that it's 2979 now? Don't worry, I know it's about 3000?...1. Yeah, 3001."
