hey y’all, was wondering if anyone has raised the “artisan Good” turkeys for breeding with other heritage turkeys. The only information I find on them is they were from a “rare” heritage line of black turkeys from France? It doesn’t seem to me they are a true heritage turkey like my other ones (Narragansett, black Spanish, bronze, royal Palm & Burbon Red) has anyone kept any Artisan Gold turkeys as pets and ever successfully bred them, had fertile eggs from them after being with a Tom? Or are the hens artificially inseminated by hatcheries? And these hybrid turkeys won’t naturally breed and reproduce on their own? Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, Artisan Gold turkeys are a brand named Black turkey. There is nothing special about them other than a marketing ploy to try to make people think they are something special. Save your money and just buy a Black turkey if the color black is what you are after.

I have a pair of them. I hatched their eggs last summer. We got several jakes that hatched true, but I got one hen that was solid white, so they don’t always hatch true.
