Consider Hardie Board -- it costs more, but is impervious to rot.

Or metal. With adequate ventilation, metal isn't actually any hotter than any other siding.

Does this have a wooden floor?

If yes, then you will need to keep it perfectly dry (top-hinged covers for the vents are good), but if it's a dirt floor then a little rain getting in isn't a problem as long as the ventilation is sufficient to let it dry right back out.

In fact, a little moisture is the key to an active-composting deep litter system.

It does have a wooden floor. It was under about 3” of dirt and chicken poop/feathers. It looks in decent shape! I was reading how coffee husks make a decent bedding when mixed with pine shavings for an active flooring. What do you use?

I was reading how coffee husks make a decent bedding when mixed with pine shavings for an active flooring. What do you use?

For my coops that have floors, I usually use coarse pine shavings as my base and add other things as they come available free or cheap. Pine straw is free for the raking on my property.
