I have two girls — 7 month old Welsummer and 8 month old Ayam Cemani.
2 weeks ago my Cemani started to limp and we thought our dog may have nipped her leg. She has no swelling, no bleeding, no wounds. Her foot curls back and the leg does not move. She gets around on one leg. She’s been laying on a clutch of eggs but gets down to eat and drink daily. I’ve added vitamins and electrolytes to their water in case of a vitamin B issue. She has no other issues.
My welsummer a few days later started limping. We did a full examination ourselves and again, no wounds, bleeding or swelling. She likes to be outside and will jump up on the roost. When she runs, she tries to use both legs. She still has energy but lays out a lot. She also eats and drinks fine.
Both girls have stopped laying.
We thought Mareks could but the culprit, but our girls have been vaccinated and no other girl has been infected for these two weeks.
Is there anything I should be looking out for? Would worms be the cause of a hen to stop laying and have a leg that seems paralyzed?
Thank you!
I’m not sure if I’m posting correctly — first time posting 😬
