… did I get what I paid for?

Hey everyone so I ordered 5 blue copper Maran and 5 black copper Maran chicks. I seen images where blues can look like blacks but they are also a tad lighter feathered. I’m very confused on what a blue copper Maran chick is supposed to look like can they be black and yellow? Or are they a dark grey with faded yellow I’ll attach pictures of what I mean. My google search brought the first two up and then the last one is my batch of chicks

The slightly lighter chicks are your blue Marans.

Did the hatchery mark them in any way, like with colored marker on their bellies? If not they must think the chicks are different enough to identify visually.

You have at least 2 blue chicks in there (bottom middle) and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the others are darker blue.

Ohhhh okay that would explain the black ones I didn’t know that there could be a darker blue I’m just getting into learning about marans and decided to add them to my coop and do plan on breeding in future so this is good to know

I didn’t get them from a hatchery I did get them from a breeder. But some red flags to me came up about the breeder especially after they sent me off with a sick chick and no replacements after spending 100 on the in total it was just odd but I’m sure every breeder has a policy and I’m just choosing to learn from this rather then bash them and just wanted to make sure I got actual copper marans of blue and black because I had requested 5blue and 5 black from them but it looked like I only got 2 blue and 8 black

If you are concerned that you only have the two blues you could certainly ask them about it. Are they local to you? Sorry about your sick chick

Yeah I can ask them they are certainly local but I think you are right in the darker blue cause some of the black ones have a wonky light section to them (I just took new picks of them today) and that would tell me your on the right track with the dark blue copper marans being in the mix

It’s kind of hard to tell in the images because of the darn red light but yes these are the images I took.

Oh and the sick chick yes thank you it was my first for learning that chicks can get stressed out get pasty butt and then respiratory issues for sure due to stress I just am not sure what stresssed the poor thing out since it was ill when they stuck it in the box at pick up
