Blaze looked towards Stormpeak territory and sniffed. She thought she had smelled something, but she quickly shrugged it off and turned back to her pack. "I also called all of you here to organize a border patrol. Wind, Oak and Pyra, you will check and mark the Frostwood border, along the river. Hail, Thaw and I will check the Stormpeak border." She said with a slight air of authority.

Pyra swiveled her ears back and lowered her head slightly in acknowledgment of Blaze's words, she was always as respectful as was expected, nothing more and nothing less, she didn't go out of her way for anyone.

Thaw, on the other hand, flattened his ears back and lowered his head almost to the ground, "Yes alpha!" He replied with fervor, ready to protect Blaze with his life, as always.

Hail did not put his ears back, but he bowed his head, then looked out towards Stormpeak, his old home, and back to Blaze's bright eyes.

Blaze raised her head slightly and stood. She noticed Hail looking at her and looked straight back with a questioning gaze. She then abruptly turned towards Stormpeak and trotted off.

Wind nodded with her ears back, and set off to the Frostwood border, scenting the air for any unusual smells or scents.

Oak did the same and followed Wind, content to let her lead the patrol.

Hail followed close behind and to the right, Thaw taking the rear, eyes darting about them as they weaved through the long grass.

Pyra took up the rear, she didn't need to be in the lead, though the thought of leading her own pack was always appealing, and she knew exactly who she would want in that pack of hers. Not now, but, maybe one day, I'll be the alpha... She thought with a flick of her tail.

Once they reached the river, Wind sniffed near the edge, and marked "Pyra, go to the bend in the river and mark there, Oak, you mark by the shallowest part of the river." She ordered

Pyra nodded, heading off at a quick trot down the rocky river bank, and after a ways, she neared the bend. She slowed as a scent on the cool breeze caught her attention, and the scent was one of death. Pyra moved silently forward thought the thin wooded area, the river helping to mask all sound, but also hindering her keen hearing. She moved through a patch of young evergreens, and where the smell had come from became visible. The carcass of a large elk was laying close to the rivers edge, and she moved closer to investigate it, ears perked, trying to pick up any sound movement from her surroundings.

As Pyra neared it, she noted how thin it seemed, and that it seemed to have died of natural causes, being that there were no bites on it, nothing had come to eat it. She narrowed her eyes and sniffed, it had died within the two suns, she estimated, but there was something, off, about it. Pyra moved around it, trotting the short ways to the bend and marking the area, then came back to the dead elk. Pyra made a short series of yipping cries, telling Wind and Oak that she had found something.

Oak nodded and followed, curious as to what she could've possibly found.

Hail followed close behind and to the right, Thaw taking the rear, eyes darting about them as they weaved through the long grass.

Blaze took the lead with a slight professional attitude. She kept all of her senses active, her eyes scanning the tall grass, her ears rotating at the slightest sound, and her nose sniffing for the smallest scent. They soon reached the Stormpeak border, and Blaze turned to the right, her nose to the ground.

Goose strolled through the long grass, a rabbit in his mouth, he was pretty impressed with himslef as usual, and wasn't paying attention to where he was going, and fell into a ditch and let out a yelp of surprise, once he recovered, he looked around to make sure noone had seen his blunder, he continued on, his destination not clear. He'd just have to let his legs take him to his next destination.

After some walking, Goose looked around, he had already eaten the rabbit. "How big is this meadow?" He muttered to himself and continued on, wondering if he'd ever reach the end of the tall grass. He could see some mountains in the distance, and headed towards them, unaware he was heading right towards Blaze and the rest of her patrol.

Blaze sniffed, then stopped abruptly. He head snapped up. "Do you smell something?" She asked the rest of her patrol, testing the wind.
