California quail require permits in most places, and if you free range them, they are wild quail and you are unlikely to see them again except as the occasional glimpse that you would of normal wild quail.

Yep. I remember hearing a quail roo on one of my morning walks in that area. That's probably where he came from.

Ditto. You’re better off with coturnix. They're fun and cute, in their own special way
