All pumpkins are squash. Not all squash are pumpkins. I have never had a pumpkin taste like my mother's candied sweet potatoes. They were awesome although Kiki would have puked at the sweetness.

Candied sweet potatoes are great, I just assume squash would not hold up to the candying.. but they still have a squash taste
